Bruce SeltveitBruce Seltveit – Director, Trombone

Born – Turtle Lake, ND

Raised and currently in Oak Harbor

Owns and operates Bruce’s Septic

Musical Experiences – 1974 Graduate of Oak Harbor High School and the music department; SeaNotes Band Director for 20 yrs; All Island Community Band Director; W. T. Preston Jazz Band; Brass Menagerie Quintet; Instructing high school brass players for local concerts and state music competitions.

Musical Highlights – As a high school senior received an award for All-Star performance at the Everett Community College Jazz Festival. Received an award for Excellence in Education for teaching young brass players from the Oak Harbor School District.


Dave Williams Dave Williams – Trombone

From  Atlanta, GA

Currently –  Oak Harbor

Retired Naval Officer; Retired Harbormaster (City of Oak Harbor)

Musical Experiences –  High School Drum Major.  U.S. Naval Academy Antiphonal choir. No formal music education but played trombone from 4th grade through high school.  Following a 34 year layoff and retirement from the Navy, resumed playing trombone with the early SeaNotes in 1992. Also plays with the Skagit Swings.

From – Alamosa, CO., Albuquerque, NM, and Anaheim, CA

Currently – Clinton

Musical Experiences – School bands, All-State Bands, Touring, Stage, R & B, Dance Bands, Solo Work.

Musical Highlights:  Played in a big band at 16 and actually made money.

Retired IT Pro

Musical Experiences- Became interested in jazz when 12. Played clarinet and sax through high school. Quit for 40 years. After retiring and moving to Washington from California, took lessons and learned to play jazz. Played sax in Vince Fejeran’s band in the Skagit Valley Community College.

Musical Highlight -Starting a successful dance and cabaret band (LocoMotion) on South Whidbey Island in 2007.

Musical experiences  – Played in U.S. Army Bands, Europe and through university years. Currently with the Skagit Community Band (10 yrs)


Steve SchwalbeSteve Schwalbe – Trumpet, French Horn, Guitar

From – Long Beach Beach, CA and Spokane, WA

Professor at American Public University and Columbia College.

Musical Experiences – Competition jazz band, Musical theatre in Germany and Korea, Brass Quintet. Currently with the Skagit Community Band.

Musical Highlight – 10 years with the National Concert Band (DC).

Musical Highlights – Marching at the Rose Bowl, Chorale at Carnegie Hall, Leading an instrumental Trio, Playing with the Seanotes

Musical Education – 2 years music major at Western Washington University

Musical Experiences – Since 2009 played in community bands in Takoma Park, MA Fairfax, VA, Olympia, Lacey, Whidbey Island, Skagit Community band and with the Civil Air Patrol Swing Band in Maryland.

Musical Highlights – Having the opportunity to meet and play with fellow musicians far more talented than I. I’ve learned a lot from them all!

Advertising designer and radio theater music director with KSVR 91.7 FM Mount Vernon as well as a skincare and beauty consultant.

Musical Education – Music studies began at age 6 learning piano, flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, tuba, guitar and drums.  Associates in Music transfer degree from Skagit Valley College.

Musical Experiences – Anacortes High School ensemble, SVC Jazz 2012-2015, Skagit Community Band 2012-present,

Musical Higlights –  Organizing International Jazz Day events through SVC and KSVR for 2 years and working with Tootie Heath for IJD 2016.

Musical Education – High school concert and stage band.; Western Washington University marching band.

Musical  Experiences – Took up the saxaphone after 45 years away from music.

Musical Highlights – Thankful for the support of five saxophone teachers/mentors. I’m thrilled to be a member of the Seanotes.

Musical Highlights: Mentoring students in Jazz and Saxophone at Oak Harbor High School. Discovering first hand that great musicians and music lovers exist everywhere in the world; it really is the universal language.


Valerie Remich – Vocalist

Vocal Coach/Music Teacher @ Oak Harbor Christian School & North Whidbey Christian High School

Musical Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (Choral/Vocal) from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM).

Musical Experiences – A background in dance, piano, musical theatre, and voice.  USM Southern Chorale for 3 years and founding member of the all girl a cappella group, The Southern Belletones. Whidbey Community Chorus 2017 Christmas concert.

Musical Highlight(s):  Sang with the Pensacola Children’s Chorus for 3 years. Directed the Music Ministry and reintroduced Chorus and Band programs to alma mater, Pensacola Catholic High School.

Born in Odell, NE and grew up in the Midwest

Currently – Anacortes

Retired French, Art, and English high school teacher

Musical Experiences – Began piano at age 5, organ at age 10, guitar at age 12. Church organist for over 50 years.  Sang with a trio in California and with a madrigals group. With W. T. Preston Dixieland Band for about 12 years and the SeaNotes about 12 years ago. Accompanist for various theater groups, including  A. C. T.’s productions of “Chicago” and “Little Shop of Horrors”


Norris Hooton – Saxophone, Clarinet, Bassoon

Born in Chicago, IL and raised on a farm in Indiana.

Currently – Anacortes

Retired from Allied-Signal (Now Honeywell) in 1987.

Musical Experiences – Began playing clarinet at the age of 9. Attended Indiana University School of Music. Played in various jazz ensembles. Currently active with the Seanotes, the Skagit Swings, the Jerry Jones Quartet, the Skagit Community Band, and the W. T. Preston Dixieland Jazz Band.

Musical Highlights – Played clarinet and bassoon in the Lackland Air Force Base “Band of the West”. Was the Principal clarinetist with the South Bend, Indiana Symphony Orchestra. Works with the Anacortes School System music department mentoring and helping with the jazz program.



Rosemary Kunow – Alto/Tenor Sax, Clarinet

From – Born in Oklahoma, lived in Guam and Florida, but raised mostly in Southern CA

Currently –  Polnell Point area outside of Oak Harbor, WA

Retired aerospace engineer (TRW/Rockwell/Boeing)

Musical Experiences – Began playing clarinet in 4th grade and saxophone in 9th grade. College community bands in Southern CA, Skagit & All-Island Community Bands in Washington.

Musical Highlight(s) – Starting to play again, after about 10 years. Finding the Skagit Community Band and SeaNotes has been wonderful.


Linda Gruber (Herring) – Vocalist, Keyboardist

Born – Yokosuka, Japan – grew up largely in Oak Harbor, WA

Currently –  Sedro-Woolley

Retired Civil Service (30+ years)

Musical Experiences  –  Trained in piano, choir and specialty groups. First professional solo performance in 10th grade. 30 years professional vocalist.  Darcy and  I started singing together in 1987 – weddings, funerals, National Anthem at WWF Wrestling Match, 9-11 Memorial at NAS Whidbey, various Navy League and Civil Service Retirement dinners, city Veteran’s Day events. 10 years singing with the Seanotes and now returning after 5 years absence.

Musical Highlight(s) –  Coca Cola Rodeo 3rd place competitive singing winner, and Ventura County Choir and Orchestra performance of Midsummer Night’s Dream (with Clair Bloom).


Darcy Sullivan – Vocalist

Born in South Dakota – Grew up in Anacortes, WA

Currently –  Oak Harbor

Retired Federal Government. Worked Civil Service for 28 years at NAS Whidbey Island

Musical Education: Grew up singing – gospel, rock-n-roll and choral (throughout elementary and high school).

Musical Experiences: Sang in choral groups throughout school in Anacortes. Sang in duos, trios, girl’s sextext, swing choir, high school choirs. Started doing musical plays in 1991 – 13 in all between Anacortes and Oak Harbor Theatres. Linda & I started singing together in 1987 – did weddings, funerals, National Anthem at WWF Wrestling Match, 9-11 Memorial @ NAS Whidbey, various Navy League dinners, Veteran’s Day.
